The organization and franchise initiative is led by Kane and Jennifer Geils and is based in Winter Park, FL. Found- ed originally as a family business in 1988, Stagg Landscape changed its name and ownership in 2009 and is still based on establishing personal relationships with its clients. Stagg Landscape is a leader in lawn and landscape services and offers full-service lawn maintenance and landscape. The business specializes in commercial, residential and estate properties, offering creative and fresh design ideas and has the knowledge, manpower and equipment to get the job done correctly.
Across the country, but especially in affluent suburbs of major markets, there is ample room in the marketplace for substantial improvement in professionalism, efficiencies, and profitability in the lawn and landscape business. Kane Geils has been in the industry for over 25 plus years and has found a way to provide a low cost, highly effective business with all of the technology and systems to make it a paperless, simple, and straightforward business. Franchising as a growth model became the next logical step to reach as many people as possible, as quickly as possible.
The organization was formed based on a market analysis primarily driven by the Stagg Landscape Management team. From its inception, the experienced management of Stagg Landscape felt that there was a need for a more functional, and simpler solution and thus created the model.
The concept fits very well into today’s franchise marketplace. It is a business model that allows for a reasonable and realistic initial investment, as a franchisee will be able to operate out of a reasonable office space, with the use of a standardized list of equipment and vehicle. A franchisee can get into business with all the required initial tooling - all for around $70,000 (although we will be keen on making sure they will be suitably capitalized). The business can be highly profitable and is a flexible and scalable business model, which would allow for a franchisee to add revenue and profitability in significant multiples as appropriate to operational capabilities and market size.
The franchise management company will be based out of Orlando, FL, which will be run by Stagg Landscape Management, along with a company-owned Stagg Landscape operation in that area. This corporate operation will be used as the flagship and operating prototype for the business model and will focus growth into the Southeastern U.S. market initially.
The Stagg Landscape business model is a combination of an exclusive proprietary methods together with operational, sales, and marketing tools that effectively acquire clients through proven processes. The franchisees will mimic this model and will present the value proposition to clients in a timely and efficient manner and deliver the appropriate services in short order with an extra emphasis on client relationships.
Through franchise development, Stagg Landscape will have the ability to operate locations in new markets and areas without the cost and management responsibilities that would come with company-owned territories. Because of the attractive initial investment required to open a location in comparison to the return on investment, franchise development holds enormous potential. By building the brand and establishing the ability to deliver services to clients and property owners on a national basis, we anticipate the lawn and landscaping services market segment will be in part, redefined by the attention to detail in the Stagg Landscape operating model.
The concept is a seasonal business that relies on consistency, accountability and a dedication to service through a territory based service structure. The operating prototype in the greater Orlando area has given the leadership of Stagg Landscape a strong understanding for the industry and business model. The business model allows for someone to enter the industry with an initial investment as low as $70,000, based on a cash investment in the business and equipment/vehicles needed to operate a location of Stagg Landscape. These numbers also include the franchise fee and a healthy amount of working capital. Some of this equipment (specifically, the vehicles) can be leased or financed which would allow someone to get into the business with less up front capital. Ideally, a franchisee will start their business from an industrial office space with an enclosed area to park their trucks. They may be expected to lease a larger office space as business increases throughout the life of the franchise agreement.
The concept is reliant on a strong sales and marketing oriented leader who is proficient in interacting with, and selling to, clients. The success of the corporate office and leadership can be directly related to the professionalism and dedication to service exhibited throughout their time in business and years in the industry. In order to have successful franchise owners, they too must exhibit this dedication to sales and customer service in building their own business.
Beginning in Orlando, Stagg Landscape will expand across the United States in a planned expansion within targeted and defined regional markets. In order to ensure the success of its franchisees, the franchise company intends to provide its franchisees with:
Stagg Landscape is staffed with highly trained and knowledgeable individuals who genuinely care about customer satisfaction. Stagg Landscape can also provide annuals for:
Stag Landscape has a full-service irrigation department that can meet all of the customer’s irrigation needs. Stagg has the experience and the knowledge of any irrigation company, but at a better price.
Stagg Landscape can provide its customers with the following service:
House Washing:
Cleaning the exterior of a house is recommended each year. This not only enhances the appearance of the property but also protects paint and siding from the damages of mold and mildew.
Gutter Cleaning:
Stagg Landscapes gutter cleaning procedures will remove all of the debris from the gutter system to make sure the downspouts are free-flowing. This service can be done quarterly as a regular service.
Driveway Washing:
The driveway is one of the main services that real-estate agents request to have completed when trying to sell a home. This is because it adds dramatic curb-appeal. The driveway will be as clean as possible. Stagg Landscape removes algae and stains that can accumulate on a driveway. If there is algae build up, this can cause a slippery film, which can be dangerous.
Sidewalk Washing:
Sidewalk cleaning can dramatically improve the appeal of a home! Combining a clean driveway, sidewalks and a well-maintained front yard, the property overall will be brighter.
Pool & Wood Decks:
Pool decks are one of the highest traffic areas of a home. Unfortunately, it is also very easily neglected do to its “clean look”. For any of the above services and treatments, Stagg Landscape takes pride in delivering the best possible customer service while trying to maximize value to the customer.
A member of Stagg Landscape field support staff will be available for all franchisees to do teleconferencing or video support. Beyond that the Franchisor may visit each franchisee according to the following schedule (as needed):
First Year – Quarterly
Second Year – Biannually
On-Going - Visits should be conducted a minimum of one time per year, but may be more often depending on the unit location and individual circumstances.
It is estimated that Stagg Landscape will need to hire one field supervisor for every 20-25 franchises in the field. Stagg Landscape will incorporate a formalized mechanism for ensuring quality control among franchisees that will be implemented by these field supervisors. Designated staff members will perform supervision of field support duties. Initially, the team will be providing support entirely through their existing staff, but as the system grows they will bring in new team members to support more expansive growth. The Stagg program has been designed to “pre-screen and pre-qualify” buyers early and often in order to limit the back end issues that come with selling to the wrong franchisees. This will, in essence, limit the amount of growth to be experienced by Stagg Landscape, but will also increase the profitability of the concept as well.
In addition to field support, members of the Franchisor organization will provide the services listed below. Stagg Landscape must assign a specific person to cover each of these support areas (one person can be assigned to more than one task). The names of support staff members who are officers, directors, or have significant management responsibility in conjunction with franchisees will be disclosed in the Stagg Landscape Disclosure Document. The Franchisor has the responsibility to assign a person/people to each task during the development of the franchise program.
Operational Support
Stagg Landscape will provide ongoing training and support in many areas critical to the success of the franchisee's business, including unit operations and maintenance, customer-service techniques, product and inventory ordering, suggested pricing guidelines, and administrative procedures.
Marketing Support
Stagg Landscape will coordinate the development and design of advertising materials and strategies for the benefit of all members of the franchise network. It will also supply franchisees with consumer marketing plans and materials for use at the local or regional level, and retains the right to approve all local advertising materials that the franchisee chooses to develop.
Much of the business could be derived from door hangers, pay per click campaigns, yard signs, and organic web-based marketing. Stagg Landscape will provide franchisees with collateral designs and materials to be printed in their respective territory by printers in that market.
Purchasing
Stagg Landscape or its affiliate will negotiate quantity discounts on behalf of all of its members, passing some or all of these savings on to the franchisees. This will include apparel/uniforms, software, marketing materials, and other items needed for the operation of the Stagg Landscape.
Accounting/Audit/Legal
Reporting directly to administration, this department is responsible for the financial and legal oversight of franchisees and the Franchisor organization as a whole.
Ongoing Research and Development
Stagg Landscape management and leadership will continue to research methods and techniques for franchise operations (including purchasing and promotional schemes) that enhance unit-level profitability.
