Beauty First is an eyebrow and waxing studio originally founded by Nazia and Rizwan Surti in Ontario, Canada in 2012. With an exclusive women-only clientele, Beauty First puts its clients’ beauty first (after coffee, of course). From this beginning, the company started expanding almost immediately, opening six company-owned locations throughout the Greater Toronto Area. First-time customers are usually surprised at the level of dedication and service they receive, which keeps them coming back and typically, results in them becoming a customer for life. Often times, guests will comment on the exceedingly great value for the services. Each client and their overall experience are of utmost importance as each person is treated with empathy and a positive attitude with a dedication to make sure they always feel energized and powerful. Beauty First offers wax studio owners and entrepreneurs everywhere a successful turnkey operation to using professional techniques, products and equipment. Beauty First has outlined an extensive training program where they provide all of the knowledge necessary to succeed with Beauty First methods in their local markets.
The business model is relatively simple, which allows for quick and efficient duplication of the business system. A typical location should be around 1500 square feet, but can range from 1,200 – 2,000 square feet, depending on the location and the number of rooms. The business model will typically fit into enclosed malls, not unlike the six current locations. We may introduce the concept to outdoor facilities in warmer climates. In any scenario, foot traffic and “anchors” that are close to the location will have an impact on the success of the operation as well.
It is critical to the success of the Beauty First franchise that new franchise partners abide by the strict process and policies in place for finding and approving locations for new operators. Rizwan Surti will oversee new franchisee-location acquisition, negotiations of leases, and business terms for the real estate. The recommended process will be as follows:
1. Store Layout, Design and Business Plan will be provided to Franchisee.
2. If possible, Beauty First will develop and utilize relationships with commercial real estate brokers to assist franchisees in finding a location.
3. Franchisee will find locations and send photos and specs for location along with address and basic information on the market area to Beauty First management.
4. Beauty First management will approve or disapprove locations.
5. Upon approval of locations, Beauty First management will visit the location and make a final approval on the spot.
6. Franchisee will then commence the completion and finalization of the lease – this will need to be approved by Beauty First management prior to signing.

Beyond foot traffic or location-based customers, the business is dependent on strong canvassing and referral business in a territory where locations are being opened. For this reason, there may be cooperative marketing groups, a national marketing program, and a localized marketing program in place. These marketing initiatives are each equally important and will be managed closely by Beauty First management. Depending on the size, franchisees will be encouraged to replicate the studio operations in Oakville.
A member of Beauty First field support staff will visit each franchisee according to the following schedule:
It is estimated that Beauty First will need to hire one field supervisor for every 20-25 franchises in the field. The Franchisor has incorporated a formalized mechanism for ensuring quality control among franchisees that will be implemented by these field supervisors. Designated staff members will perform supervision of field support duties.
In addition, Beauty First will provide the following support functions:
Site Selection
Beauty First Franchising, Inc. will provide site selection services to the franchise partners. Beauty First Franchising, Inc. may work with franchisees to handle lease negotiations and make sure that franchise partners go into business with the best possible lease structure for their operation.
Operational Support
The Franchisor will provide ongoing training and support in many areas critical to the success of the franchisee's business, including new business development and lead generation for the franchisee. There will also be a significant amount of support through product development and industry expertise.
Marketing Support
Beauty First will coordinate development of advertising materials and strategies for the benefit of all members of the franchise network. It will also supply franchisees with consumer marketing plans and materials for use at the local or regional level, and retains the right to approve all local advertising materials that the franchisee chooses to develop (to be paid for by the franchisee).
Purchasing
The Franchisor or its affiliate will negotiate quantity discounts for third-party items and will help with all internal purchases on behalf of all of its members, passing some or all of these savings on to the franchisees.
Accounting/Audit/Legal
Reporting directly to administration, this department is responsible for the financial and legal oversight of franchisees.
Ongoing Research and Development
Beauty First Franchising, Inc. and leadership will continue to research methods and techniques for franchise operations (including purchasing and promotional schemes) that enhance unit-level profitability. Beyond that, Beauty First will continue to adapt the model to the current marketplace on an ongoing basis.
