Joel Lebovits, 1982 Coffee Roasters’ owner and founder, grew up with a love of baking and cooking. He trained at culinary school, built a career as a chef, and along the way fell hard for specialty coffee, a passion that set him on a new path.

He roasted his first batch in his own oven (cookie sheet, tin foil, a smoky mess), and kept at it until a storefront opened on 13th Avenue, in the heart of Borough Park. Today, 1982 Coffee Roasters is a Chalav Yisrael, Tarnopol Kashrus-certified roastery pouring single-origin coffee alongside a full kosher menu regulars know by heart.
